Prof. Keivan Stassun (at left) won a $50,000 fellowship from the Fletcher Foundation to support increasing the number of underrepresented minorities pursuing scientific careers. He'll develop a model of the Fisk-Vanderbilt Masters-to-PhD Bridge program, in collaboration with researchers at the Columbia Law School Center for Institutional and Social Change. The VU program has attracted 30 underrepresented minorities; has become the nation’s top producer of blacks earning masters in physics; and, is projected to become the top awarder of doctorates among underrepresented minorities in the targeted fields.
