Angel Cap Group + Screampoint

Nashville-based Angel Capital Group has invested an unspecified amount in a recently reopened C-round raise for Screampoint, a data-visualization software and services provider with offices in Menlo Park and abroad, according to a release. ACG CEO Rachael Qualls told VNC that ACG learned of the opportunity through an ACG angel. Screampoint's C-round remains open and will eventually close with about $3.5MM total, she said. TN Angel investing encouraged

Middle Tennessee's Angel Capital Group investor relations director Jason Denenberg's (left) comments on the importance of Angel investing in this economy are welcome enough, but it's his colleagial mentioning of Nashville Capital Network and the Nashville Entrepreneur Center that is perhaps most encouraging. Angel Capital Group spreads net

The Nashville-based Angel Capital Group has worked its way into a role providing a tributary into the dealflow pipeline that's being established by RightSide Capital Management in San Fran. ACG has also continued to build its own network of offices. Read more here. RightSide promises speedy answers for entrepreneurs seeking seed capital -- as well as "massive" due diligence that sounds like the financial equivalent of a body-cavity search.

Emerging Leaders

Chamber's 'Emerging Leaders' finalists named

The Chamber's Nashville Emerging Leaders Awards finalists have been revealed and the list is here. Things might get awkward at eMids, because in the Tech sector Mike Hollis is competing with his boss/owner, Saurabh Sinha. Other names previously covered by VNC include Justin Lanning of CredenceHealth and Rachael Qualls of Angel Capital Group. Citing a more tenured leader, the group also announced its 2009 Sage Award goes to Pat Collins, president of SESAC, the recording rights company.

Angel Capital Group announces fundings

Angel Capital Group, based in Hendersonville, announced in today's weekly edition of Nashville Business Journal that three firms have obtained investments from angels in ACG or from the closely aligned North Carolina-based Inception MicroAngel fund. ACG CEO Rachael Qualls did not reveal financial details for the transactions, which were apparently the first consummated by ACG, founded in spring 2007. Recipients are: Traklok Corp., in Knoxville, which provides devices for tracking and shipping intermodal containers; Optivia Medical, a North Carolina firm that's commercializing endoscopic technology; and, BugleMe, a Nashville company that allows fans to signup to receive voicemail messages from celebrities.

Tough love from VCs

The roughly 80 tech executives, VCs and others assembled last week for a panel discussion on venture capital and angel investing seemed happy enough after hearing tough-love observations about how bank debt facilities have dried-up, Angels ain't writin' checks so easily and VCs enjoy deal flow that's as greater or greater than they had in boomtimes. Stalwart VC Vic Gatto of Solidus (left) has volunteered for the middle seat. This Boult Cummings-sponsored event complements last week's NCN-sponsored VC panel, which produced insightful comments. ATT: Machine to Machine and Knoxville's Tingz

Knoxville-based Patrick Hunt (left), founder-CEO of Tingz (formerly Modern Sprocket), presented his plan to create widgets for home appliances and other electronic devices that would knit them altogether to create personalized interactive consumer ecosystems. He's made the round to the Angel Capital Group based in Sumner County, and presented at TechCrunch. Thursday's AT&T announcement about its formation of an emerging-devices devices seems congruent with Hunt's vision.
