NV Med Trade Center-VUMC pact

Market Center Management Company, the Dallas firm developing the Nashville Medical Trade Center, announced today that Vanderbilt University Medical Center has dubbed NMTC a preferred vendor for space and infrastructure for continuing medical education. Med Trade Center's China ties

Nashville Medical Trade Center developers Market Center Management Company (Crow Holdings) said in a release today Beijing-based Huida Investment Management Company will lead development of a "China pavillion" within the trade center, which MCMC still says will openin 2013, and which is to have 1.5 million square feet of space, eventually. Battle of the Med Marts

Nashvillians are closely watching progress at Cleveland's proposed medical mart within a convention center. Financing there has long been virtually assured, even though community doubts remain regarding the sheer prudence of the project, as The Tennessean and NP.com report. Med Trade Center ripples quietly spread

Nashville Business Journal's Brandon Gee reports Nashville Medical Trade Center officials have been mum since attending the HiMSS conference, which they said they considered the kickoff for their trade-center leasing activities. Reporter Brandon Gee's contacts with spokespersons for HMS, Passport, Emdeon and others yielded noncommittal responses. David Osborn (left), who has been spearheading with Dallas executives the successful campaign for the Nashville Medical Trade Center, has been named general manager, according to a release this morning.

Rival med center scales-back, MCC body votes approval

The medical trade mart in New York City that has been a rival to Nashville's own planned Nashville Medical Trade Center has scaled-back its square-footage plans to enable the group -- the World Product Center -- to begin operating earlier than previously planned. Crain's New York Business Health Pulse (subscription) says the WPC's planned "tower" has been "scrapped," and goes on to explain, in part, "The center's backers now say they will lease only 300,000 to 350,000 square feet initially, which they hope to secure by the end of March. They're scouting Manhattan for a site where more space could later be leased for expansion. They say that the initial downshift will enable them to open within 18 months instead of in 2013 as originally planned, giving the project a huge advantage over medical markets proposed for Nashville and Cleveland." News out of Cleveland this morning shows that project has gotten a new head of steam. Meanwhile, here in Nashville, the NBJ reports that this morning the Convention Center Authority, as expected, voted to approve the budget proffered for the new Music City Center, all of which goes to a critical vote in Metro Council, Jan. 19.

Med Trade Center's public

As we reported yesterday, the Nashville Medical Trade Center is moving along, with management confident they'll get financing, based in part on Dallas-based Crow Holdings' track record. Right now, it seems the Center could be operational at some level ahead of competing facilities in Cleveland and New York City. An interesting angle that's emerged is that of public engagement -- how best to interest, inform and educate the general public about healthcare, medicine and technologies. Pretty mild stuff, really, this competition to create one or more health-medical trade centers in Nashville, New York City and-or Cleveland...
