Nick, Jax terminate GPS Assassins biz

Nick Holland and Jackson Miller (L-R, at left) pulled the plug on their local effort around GPS Assassins, their location-driven games play, according to NashvillePost. GPS Assassins had been approved by the iPhone Apps Store in June 2009. They sold the property for an undisclosed amount to games startup Worldblender. Holland told the Post they'd reached their limits, given other obligations and the fact there's not much ecosystem here for the games sector. Our earlier story on the Holland-Jackson venture. "Big Cheese" Holland's unwavering focus remains on CentreSource, while Miller, a retail franchisee himself, as well as a Geek, is launching a franchisee-oriented BI platform, which he's incubating in the Entrepreneur Center.

Nashville-based Nicholas Holland and Jackson Miller's (at left) gpsAssassin game for iPhone gets one helluva sendup on TechCrunch, by writer Jason Kincaid. A year ago, Jackson Miller was presenting in the TechCrunch demo pit, a startup showcase, and hoping to launch Statzen, which has taken somewhat of a backseat to gpsAssassin, which recently passed the 10,000 simultaneous users milestone.

Underway: Startup Weekend Nashville

Nashville Startup Weekend 1.0 is well underway within the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management HQ (at left), and this morning the group narrowed-down its interests to seven finalist concepts out of a field of more than 30 ideas, according to entrepreneur, software guru and blogger Jackson Miller (who also demo'd his wares in last month's TechCrunch DemoPit). Jackson captured much of the action thus far in this post. The focus has been whittled to seven ideas for further development and presentation by Sunday evening. Co-organizer Jason Moore said this morning there's not a lot of blogging on the NSW page, partly because so many attendees are twittering. Hmmm.
